The Life of Brian’s Statue: A whale of a time
Brian Clough’s statue in Nottingham muses on his life and what’s happening in the world today…
It’s a bit frustrating, ‘cause I can hear the cries and squeals from where I’m standing, but can’t really see what’s going on. Loads of people are going in and out of Market Square on a daily basis. Well, the weather’s good, and there’s water to splash around in.
The kids love it. Makes me think though, you have no idea what’s really going on behind the scenes. Take this phone-hacking scandal malarkey. From what I can make out, it’s a can of worms as big as a roar from the Trent End.
Of course in my time as a manager, I did my fair share of keeping the powers-that-be on their toes. Kept the bloody chairman guessing by nipping off and spending a few hundred grand on a new player every now and again. That’s what you have to do. Make sure you’re in the driving seat, otherwise they’ll happily reverse their E-type Jag over you and then say they didn’t see you.
Well, when you’re in the deep end, it’s no good shouting out for a pair of arm-bands, ’cause the sharks’ll just pretend they haven’t heard you. You have to be slippery as an eel, and crabby with it. But, if you can salmon up what you need to make it through, you’ll have a whale of a time!
