Sixteen grand a week

…is what the Nottingham Post report Luke Chambers is set to earn at Ipswich:

With his £8k a week Reds contract having expired last weekend, Chambers has been offered the chance to almost double his wages with a switch to Portman Road.

Ipswich Town website Those Were The Days are understandably sceptical about the figure “given Town’s oft-stated commitment to reducing outgoings”.

They’d have been pretty sceptical if they had seen Luke play last year as well. Whilst Luke’s performances during the 2010/11 campaign were no doubt out of the top draw, he was largely poor under both McClaren and Cotterill, so unless Ipswich are planning on hiring Billy Davies as manager they might not get the best of him for their money.
