- ‘Fair result’ seems to be the general consensus of Sunday’s draw against Watford, with the Seat Pitch report mentioning the mutual appreciation from fans after a highly entertaining contest. Manuel Almunia reckons it was the right result even if he was perhaps the busiest of the two keepers.
Forest lost their discipline somewhat in midfield as the game went on and Gianfranco Zola was left lamenting his side’s defending. Meanwhile Kenny Burns singled out Ishmael Miller for his blinkered vision.
- Nottingham Forest Ladies began their league season with a win away at Preston. As the club battles for survival off the pitch, every positive result they get will surely help convince potential investors they are worth saving.
- An otherwise satisfying weekend for Forest fans was spoiled by the worrying news of John Robertson‘s suspected heart attack during a tennis match with Liam O’Kane. It’s a cruel blow for Robertson who, despite his former reputation for enjoying both fags and booze, has been working hard to improve his general well-being in recent years. LTLF, along with every other Forest fan, wishes Robbo the speediest of recoveries.
Field Notes
Dispatches from the front line of following Forest...
- Karl Darlow has signed a new four-year contract, the club have announced.
- LTLF is thinking of boycotting the Nottingham Post because their website is a minefield of pop-up ads and irrelevant videos that play of their own volition, but the club must have their own reasons for snubbing the paper along with all other local media. Forest are playing a dangerous game here and really ought to be keeping the press onside as suggested on these pages recently. Still, at least it explains the quiet news week we mentioned yesterday…
- Watford fans are apparently not boycotting the media, with one providing a light-hearted preview of Sunday’s match to Seat Pitch. As well as potentially keeping Forest of the league, the match could also yield a some records (sorry, another adverty link from Post).
- It’s been a quiet week so far, so Seat Pitch have taken the opportunity to change focus to the Nigel Doughty Academy with a season preview.
- With a lack of Forest news, readers of the Nottingham Post should instead look out for extracts of LTLF author Mark Collar‘s Those Forest Men which are being published this week. The book is available for purchase here.
- We are top of the league! And deservedly so. As Billy says, yesterday was a ‘test’ and Forest passed with flying colours, scoring three quality goals and generally looking very comfortable in all areas of the pitch against Bolton. It was a terrific attacking display that ought to have impressed those watching on Al Jazeera as well at the City Ground.
- Forest have announced a long-anticipated television deal with Al Jazeera, the Arabic satellite network. Tomorrow’s game with Bolton will be the ‘first of many’ home games broadcast. Operations manager Joe Sharphouse says he hopes Forest’s engagement in the Middle East will continue to grow.
- If the club’s plans for the future include a new stadium, they could do worse than look at this student project. A flight of fancy, maybe, but it certainly beats this in terms of presentation and imagination.
- Forest Ladies have received their first major donation from a local firm but are still looking for the bulk of the £20,000 they need to survive. Talks with NFFC are believed to have been scheduled but there have been mixed message given on Twitter about the relationship between the men’s and women’s clubs.
