Dispatches from the front line of following Forest...
  • Adlène Guedioura was the only Forest player involved in last night’s international fixtures, taking part in Algeria’s 2-2 friendly draw with Guinea and scoring a stunning goal. Djamel Abdoun did not take part in the game. Meanwhile Gonzalo Jara watched from the bench as Chile beat Iraq 6-0 in a friendly in Denmark.
  • Radio Nottingham briefly profiled Forest ‘general manager’ Jim Price this morning (1:50). The piece refers to the controversial closure of law firm Ross Harper at which Price was a managing partner. No comment from Price or the club was given to the station.
  • Nottingham seems to be under threat of another outbreak of optimism as the Reds’ quality signings and perfect start to the season lifts our hopes of a strong season. A win at Blackburn that was both sweet and fully deserved, settled by Darius Henderson’s opportunistic goal, meant most of the pub talk over the weekend was about completing the squad with a 20-goal striker to fire us to promotion, though some think we could still prosper with goals from midfield.
  • While things have started as well as could be hoped for the men’s team, Nottingham Forest Ladies are once again on the brink of going out of business. Hopefully a sponsor can be found in time to save the club (last year Fawaz Al-Hasawi stepped in at the last moment) as Forest ought to have a ladies side during what could be an exciting era for the women’s game.
  • Och aye, the noo* – Kelvin Wilson has returned from Glasgow to his home town of Nottingham! The club announced the defender has signed from Celtic for an ‘undisclosed fee’, even though the fee has been disclosed by pretty much every other media outlet as £2.5 million.
  • Wilson may go straight into the side for tomorrow’s match with Blackburn Rovers, but Simon Cox is definitely out with his ankle injury from Tuesday. A cautiously optimistic Blackburn fan has spoken to Seat Peat about the match and his hopes that the club are stabilising after recent turmoil.
  • We’re sad to hear that former crowd favourite Julian Bennett has suffered another bad injury, rupturing a ligament during his first game for Southend United, which will likely see him miss six months of the season.

*Scottish readers will hopefully appreciate the rare use of this phrase in the correct context and literal meaning of ‘Oh yes, just now’. It is in no way used by LTLF to promote offensive racial stereotypes, ya radges yoo!

  • Last night’s League Cup win over Hartlepool United saw a ‘tidy performance’ from Forest in the view of one reporter, but Billy ‘certainly wasn’t pleased’ with some sloppy defending late on.

Nevertheless, Forest won praise from both manager Colin Cooper and player Christian Burgess in the Hartlepool local press.

The goals can be viewed here.

  • The Scotsman reports that Kelvin Wilson will finalise his return to Forest tonight after representing Celtic in a Champions League match. The price seems to have been agreed at £2.5 million. Wilson’s manager Neil Lennon believes Wilson’s family ties with Nottingham are drawing him back.
  • It’s telling that the highlights of Saturday’s win over Huddersfield Town posted by the club on YouTube begin in the second half. Says it all about the first, really. The stats show only four shots on target between the two teams. Nevertheless, Forest were the better team and got the reward they deserved.
  • The new away shirt has been unveiled and with it we get our first glimpse of the new sponsor’s logo in situ. Reaction on the forum seems mixed so far. We’ll probably see it in action for the first time away at Doncaster Rovers on September 21.
  • Finally, ‘Jonathan Greening’ has been talking about the time he won the Champions League with Manchester United and celebrating the anniversary with a couple of beers…
